Review of the book Konsumpcja Internetu
Konsumpcja internetu (Consumption of Internet) is a collective monograph edited by Marta Jarosz Ph.D., Kinga Cybulska, Tomasz Knecht, Sylwia Konopacka-Bąk and Kamila Kwasik. The book was prepared after VI Scientific Conference of Young Researchers „Challenges of New Media”, organized by Institute of Media Education and Journalism at Faculty of Theology at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, on December, 10th 2014. Monograph consists of five parts and 24 scientific articles, and has 244 pages. The main theme of the monograph is a functioning of consumers in new media culture and new media economy, including aspects such as: relation consumers – internet users, internet users in the society, personality of internet users, education of internet users and functioning of internet users in everyday life.
Authors of articles are the young researchers, involved in the field, which can be described as „internetology”. I think is the primarily economic internetology, because concerned the problem of the modern consumers. But not only. This economical paradigm of research has powerful influence on every our activities, cultural, educational and others „every day life” activities. This influence is total and transitory. Total, because it is the change of traditional model of society an its institutions and transitory, because – as the researchers note – many of new internet phenomenas are so fast that, when we study them, they are already out of date.
Media-educational and consumer-educational perspective is the best way to consider those fast and transitory changes. When we talk about the subject of economy – about person of consumer, we can see in philosophical perspective what – after all – is a constant in this challenges. Critical approach to the Internet economy and development of media literacy education (including Internet consumer literacy education) should be a new paradigm of our media economical studies. Oriented to the consumer as a person. Publication is available under CC BY-SA licence, on the website.
